Training Plans

Training Plans

When I started training for marathons I couldn’t get my head around pre-made training plans.  My lifestyle and work commitments didn’t tie in with the training expectation.  So from the very beginning I made my own.  I researched many different types of training plans and some good principles to base them on and got started.   This gave me freedom to run when I liked but also keeping my training challenging and realistic.

A pre-made training plan does not take in to account your lifestyle.  Whether you have a holiday booked, a family commitment, work trip or general health concerns.  So when these events get tied up in a plan it can put unneccessary pressure or guilt to over-train and catch-up on runs.  Whereas having a plan made for you to fit in with your life means that you are more likely to stick to it and succeed.

What the plan consists of

Each plan is catered to your personal needs and preferences.  You choose how many runs you want to do and what the focus will be.   How intense you want the training to be is also up to you.  There is a real mix of runs to keep you focused and interested.  There are hill reps, speed intervals, progressive and long runs to keep you going.  The idea is to challenge you and make you a stronger, fitter runner.

Looking after your physical well-being is also part of a good training plan, it’s not just about running.  A good warm-up routine is essential to prevent injury as well as some cool-down exercises to finish off any tough session.  This as well as strength training, to ensure your body is capable of the intensity and demands that you put upon yourself.

Races 2020

Currently because of Covid-19 there is much uncertainty about if and when postponed races will go ahead this year.  I am more than happy to work with you on a rolling 4 week basis if you want to start training for a potential race or to help build up consistnecy and training load based on any race updates.

It’s a difficult time to know when to start training, if at all but if you want to work towards something, I can help you put something together.  Now is a great time to work on your shorter distances and work on posture, technique and speed, if that is important to you, of course.

How does it work?

1. Choose a plan; what do you need to get you to your goal? Click the link to pay for the option your prefer.

2. Fill in the questionnaire.  It’s important to know where you are at currently, what your aiming for and anything else that is valuable in knowing to get you started.

3. I will get in touch with you, with any additional questions to get started.

4. You will be sent your plan, along with any other information you require the weekend before the plan is due to start.

5. Ask questions, give feedback.  It is important that you are happy with your plan, don’t settle for something you don’t like, understand etc.  I want to do the best for you so let me know if it’s all good or needs some clarification or changes.

6. You will be sent an invoice when your next payment is due and ready to start the next 4 weeks of the plan.  This is a good time to have a chat about any changes you need to make, any events or engagements that you need to allow for in your training.  And the 4-week cycle starts again until you have reached your goal.

The finer details

Once a plan has been purchased, you will have 48hrs before the start date to receive a full refund.  However, once you have received your first 4 weeks of training there will be no refunds in full or in part.  The plans are non-transferrable to another person.

Should you wish to delay the plan to refocus on a different goal or event you will have up to 12 weeks from the previous start date to redeem a new plan.
